The Chief Imam of Umuahia Central Mosque, Mallam Aminu Lawal has charged Muslims in Abia State to remain peaceful and maintain cordial relationship with people irrespective of their religions and cultures.
The Imam made the call at Umuahia Township Stadium after conducting prayers during the celebrations of Eid -el -Fitri.
The Islamic cleric, who commended Muslim faithful for completing their fasting periods, urged them to always do the wish of Almighty Allah in their everyday life and to be patriotic to the nation.
He listed forgiveness, unity with one another, love, tolerance and respect to constituted authorities as some of the virtues expected in the life of a the Muslims.
Also speaking, the leader the Northern Traditional Council in South East and South South, Alhaji Yaro Danladi expressed joy at the existing peace between the Northerners and the host communities.
Alhaji Danladi called for a sustained peaceful coexistence between the Northerners and the communities where they are living or doing their business.
He further admonished Nigerians to offer hands of assistance to their neighbors who are in need.
Similarly, the Speaker of Abia State House of Assembly, Chinedum Orji has appealed to Muslim faithful to use the celebration of Eid-El-Fitri to pray for the peace of the nation.
The Speaker made the call in his congratulatory message to all Muslims in Abia State which was signed by Mr Jude Ndukwe, his Chief Press Secretary.
DAILY POST observed that Umuahia township stadium was filled to brim with worshippers who came in their large numbers, with their families, to observe the prayers.
Also at upper Eket street area popularly known as Ama Hausa in Umuahia, Muslim faithful were seen dressed in their special celebration apparels enjoying with their loved ones with special delicacies.
